• Use the structures of infinitive and gerund correctly

Warm-up
(5 min)

  1. Teacher greets Ss
  2. Teacher introduces the lesson of grammar

Engage
(20 min)

  1. Teacher writes two sentences on the board
  2. I stopped to talk to him/her
  3. I stopped talking to him/her
  4. Teacher elicits the difference between the two sentences in form and meaning
  5. Teacher explains that in English there are some verbs followed by the infinitive and others by gerund
  6. Ss are asked to study the sentences on the board
  7. I enjoyed playing tennis/ I enjoyed to play tennis/ Her brother failed to pay/ Her brother failed paying/ You remembered buying the milk/ You remembered to buy the milk
  8. Ss notice and tell which sentences are not correct then find out the verbs followed by the infinitive, by gerund and by both
  9. Teacher illustrates the difference in meaning between the two
  10. last sentences using a timeline
  11. Buy –then – remember
  12. Remember—then – buy
  13. Teacher asks Ss to study the verbs on the bb and guess which ones are followed by infinitive and which ones are followed by gerund

  1. Teacher asks Ss to write 5 sentences using the given verbs: Prefer – can – go – finish – ask
  2. Ss read their sentences
