The Outsiders pdf and short summary
The Outsiders was written by S. E. Hinton in 1967. Hinton began writing the Outsiders when she was fifteen. but did not have it published until she was eighteen. The Outsiders is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the earlier part of the 1960’s. It focuses on the life of Ponyboy as he lives it in the poor side of the city. He is a gang member of the Greasers, which is of course the lower class (financially disadvantaged) gang that puts grease in their hair and look like (“the Fonz” from Happy Days) On the hand their rivals are the Socs (Socials). They of course are the more affluent gang with more financial benefits and needless to say are from well to do families. The two gangs antagonize each other as rivals do and end up in fights.
